Based in Mumbai, Birjoo Mehta has been a student of Yogacharya B K S Iyengar since 1974. An engineer by profession having graduated in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1981, he continued his professional career in Electronics and Telecommunications till his retirement in 2018.
He was one of the two students chosen by Yogacharya Iyengar to assist him during the First International Yoga Convention at San Francisco in 1984 and thereafter accompanied and assisted Yogacharya Iyengar on many of his visits in India and abroad.
